WEEKLY WOMBLE AWARDS 28TH AUGUST

Image
This week's awards...   WOMBLES OF THE WEEK   This week goes to Brian Grantham and Phil Caley from The Stratton Arms. Both of these lovely gentlemen have put our purple bags out on Turweston Road to reduce the amount of litter along there. Thank you!     NO LUCKY FINDS OF THE WEEK   but keep your eyes peeled!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Brackley Litter Wombles have been asked to help at a couple of events so far this summer and I have noted something.   Two days of kids activity at the rugby club - not needed   Beer festival - 10 bags while we were there and the Round Table needing the equipment the following day.     Just a little thought for you.

MINI WOMBLE HAUL

Image
We had a great Womble this morning up and down the High Street. 12 of us in total and our mascot Brackley came along.   Good haul, there were two extra purple bags and a tyre added to the chair n black bag collection. No Womble wages but we did collect what felt like a bin bag of cigarette ends. The brilliant Brian was there with the dustpan and brush. Thank you to the fabulous Alan Garrett for speedy collection!

WEEKLEY WEDNESDAY WOMBLES TO CONTINUE!

Image
Weekly Wednesday Wombles will continue after the school holiday! I've decided to blank out Wednesday mornings for litter picking so everyone can plan ahead (plus I like the alliteration ) We may even do a monthly long one that will finish in a pub for lunch.

WEEKLY WOMBLE AWARDS 21ST AUGUST

This week's awards...   WOMBLE OF THE WEEK   This week goes to Angie Booth ! She had the unfortunate experience of more than driver tizer during our community Womble on the Buckingham Road Industrial Estate.     LUCKY FINDS OF THE WEEK Thought it was going to be Trish with her £5 but it has to go to Stephen Edwards for his hauls of fly tipping on Saturday.

CHANGE OF DATE AND VENUE!

Image
. PLEASE NOTE. Wednesday 30th Aug mini womble has changed time and location!!   It's now at Brackley Town park and will be from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. This is so we can Womble the last hour and packing away of SNYE's Stay and Play event.

BRACKLEY IS ON TOUR

Image
Our new mascot Brackley was missing at our litter pick yesterday because he was moonlighting with Conrad and his grandchildren. Love that his grandchildren also have their own Wombles. Great picture! Can anyone identify where he is by the cathedral in the background?

AUGUST'S COMMUNITY WOMBLE

Image
Busy morning and a great crowd at our community Womble on the Buckingham Road industrial Estate. 16 of us in total.   Great to see familiar faces and some new ones.   20 full bags of litter, sleeping bag, tyres, traffic cone that's seen better days, etc etc. If you go down Buckingham Road you'll see them waiting for collection. Stephen came up trumps with spotting all the fly tipping!   Thank you to everyone that came along today.

MEET OUR MASCOT BRACKLEY

Image
Brackley has his first official outing at the U3A open morning in the Baptist church.

BIN BAG TRIALS

Drove past Mr Grantham's bin bag on Turweston Road. Really pleased to see it has litter in it!   Chatting to the wonderful Phil Caley from the Stratton Arms this lunchtime (for my regular Friday pub lunch with my other half) and he is also going to put out one of our purple bags for passers by to drop their litter. I know they are a different county but Turweston is very much part of the Brackley community.    Thank you Phil!

WEEKLY WOMBLE AWARDS 14TH AUGUST

This week's awards...   WOMBLE OF THE WEEK This week goes to Holly Heather 's daughter who got addicted to wombling when she did the BJS litter pick. Her mum asked how she could join in, so we armed her up and she immediately wombled one full bag.     NO LUCKY FINDS OF THE WEEK Hopefully we'll come across something exciting on our big community womble on Saturday. 10:00 meet at the library to get equipped and then march down to the Buckingham Road industrial estate.

RECYCLABLE VAPES

Image
A message from one of our Wombles, Angie Booth, who runs the local vape shop... Something to look out for on your wombles.   We all know that dead vape devices are all over the place. I would like to highlight a positive aspect about them.   Pictured is a device that we sell and it is the only fully recyclable device on the market. If you find any like this please bring them to our shop in the Courtyard Shops in town. We have a special container that gets collected by the manufacturer who then recycle all of the parts. Any of the packaging can be recycled too.

BIN BAG TRIALS

The lovely Mr Grantham who lives on Turweston Road is trialling our first bag for "Do we need a bin here?"    So if you are walking on Turweston road there is now a purple bag by the last house that can be used as a bin.   Also dog walkers.... Where do you drop off your poo bags if you have been walking that way and need to dispose of one?

WEDNESDAY WOMBLE

Image
Just two of us on today's Wednesday Womble but we cleared two bin bags of grot from the car park behind Waitrose.   I also did another one on my walk back.   The library has a stash of battery recycling bags and also small electrical household items bags. Please take advantage of these! They are in the area by the seed exchange near the self service till.

WEEKLY WOMBLE AWARDS 7TH SEPTEMBER

This week's awards...    WOMBLE(S) OF THE WEEK Once again goes to the children who came along to the Poppyfields mini womble on Wednesday. 9 children! We had more kids than adults which is brilliant.     LUCKY FIND OF THE WEEK Goes to Trish Savill who found a stash of three unopened cans of Stella. She didn't drink them. She doesn't like lager

WEEKLY WOMBLE AWARDS 31ST JULY

Image
This week's awards...    WOMBLE(S) OF THE WEEK Goes to the children who helped litter pick at the Brackley Beer festival on Saturday and Nick Price 's two who helped the Round Table clear the field on Sunday.   LUCKY FIND OF THE WEEK The Womble wage found by Carol Fleming 's daughter on our Wednesday Womble in town.     Great work by our mini-wombles this week!

ADOPT A ROAD

From one of our lead wombles Sarah...   Just an idea.... Is there something we could do to encourage people to 'adopt a road' or area?   Whilst I was out hiding frogs all around town and the lake yesterday (Brackley Pebbles), I was dismayed to see how much rubbish there still was in areas I know us Wombles have already tackled, and on a regular basis in some cases. Particularly Banbury Road and Manor Road. It struck me that we have 350+ members now, and have lots of people at the group picks, and lots of people asking when the group picks are, but what Brackley might really need (other than others not dropping it in the first place) is to adopt an area and keep it smart and litter free...   We at womble HQ think this is a great idea! So claim a road/ area and every time you pop out for a walk, take a small bag to fill.

BEER FESTIVAL WOMBLE

10 full bags of rubbish collected at the beer festival today. Left just before the end.   Thank you to the 5 children and a mum who helped collect the grot that the adults had left behind.

FIRST WEDNESDAY MINI WOMBLE

Image
8 of us at today's mini womble. Thank you to those that came!   Brian's homemade trolley bin made its first appearance. It's a fabulous bit of kit!   5 bags collected in an hour and the hideous litter filled "dry moat'" by the boarded up building on Bridge Street is now clear! Carol Fleming 's camera identified the area as plants after we had cleared it.   Thank you Alan Garrett for your Ulta speedy collection. It was great to finally meet you in person.
